1945-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar
The Walking Liberty silver half dollar is a favorite of collectors of US coins. Collectors appreciate the image and symbolism of a flag-wrapped Lady Liberty and the dawn of a new day. Adolph Weinman created the design for this coin as well as the dime. He earned his commission by winning a design competition held by the Commission on Fine Arts. However, the design on the coin was not his initial design as he had other works rejected before this one gained approval. Like most Walking Liberty silver half dollar coins coming out of the San Francisco mint, strike is not nearly as strong as with the Philadelphia mint. The luster can be either a frosty white or toned and slightly satiny.
