1932 Washington Quarter
The 1932 Washington Quarter was the first in the series of George Washington Quarters. It had a little over 5.4 million coins minted at the Philadelphia Mint. The coin was created to commemorate first United States President George Washington’s 200th anniversary of his birthday. This coin replaced the Standing Liberty Quarter and was the first design change for coins in the U.S. since 1916.
History of the 1932 Washington Quarter
The 1932 Washington Quarter was released during the Great Depression. For this reason, it is believed that not many of these Silver Washington Quarters were saved in storage, and most went out into circulation. The 1932 Washington Quarter was a novelty and very desirable, so many people kept and hoarded “slider” versions that had seen some circulation. The obverse of the Washington Quarter is a portrait of George Washington. The reverse of the coin has a magnificent bald eagle on it with its wings spread wide, standing on a bundle of arrows and an olive branch.
1932 Washington Quarter Value
The 1932 Washington Quarter value ranges up to the mid tens of thousands for the higher grades. It is believed that the majority of the 1932 Washington Quarters are lower grades, but there are higher Mint State grades available, they are just fairly to extremely rare. The 1932 Washington Quarter is a great coin to get your hands on for a Washington Quarter series collection, as it is the first in the series and commemorates a unique time in American history.
