1930-D Wheat Penny
The 1930-D Wheat Penny had a total mintage of just over 40 million coins struck at the Denver Mint. The 1930-D Wheat Penny is a special coin and one of the more scarce in the series to find in uncirculated Gem condition. When looking for this coin to add to your collection, seek out one that is well-struck with attractive surfaces, as the Denver Mint was known for a weaker strike with the Wheat Penny coins.
History of the 1930-D Wheat Penny
The 1930-D Wheat Penny is very difficult to find in the highest uncirculated grades. It is believed that only 10 examples exist in the highest grades. The Wheat Penny was designed by Victor David Brenner. President Theodore Roosevelt wanted to prepare new coin designs that had more artistic merit. He chose Brenner based on a plaque he created with Lincoln’s profile. The Wheat Penny depicts a bust and profile of Abraham Lincoln on the obverse, with the D mint mark under the date. The reverse features two stalks of durum wheat.
