1927-S Standing Liberty Quarter
The 1927-S Standing Liberty Quarter is a key date in the Standing Liberty Quarter series. It had the second lowest mintage in the entire series besides the very rare original 1916 Standing Liberty Quarter. The 1927-S Standing Liberty Quarter had a total mintage of 396,000 from the San Francisco Mint. This coin is rare in most circulated and uncirculated grades, although a little more accessible in the lowest circulated grades.
History of the 1927-S Standing Liberty Quarter
For such a low mintage, it’s surprising that many of these coins went out into circulation instead of being saved by collectors. The 1927-S Standing Liberty Quarter is a highly sought after coin in all grades, and the highest grades will command very high prices. The Standing Liberty Quarter was designed by Herman MacNeil. The obverse of the coin features Lady Liberty holding a shield in one hand and an olive branch in the other while wearing chain mail armor on her body. She stands in some form of gateway that features 13 stars and the words “In God We Trust” dividing the walls. The reverse of the coin features an American Bald Eagle in flight with 13 stars surrounding it.
1927-S Standing Liberty Quarter Value
The 1927-S Standing Liberty Quarter value ranges from around $55,000 to upwards of $258,000 for the highest grades of the Full Head that have been found on the market. This is an elusive and valuable coin that has been popular and sought after consistently throughout the years.
