History of the 1925-D Mercury Dime
The 1925-D Mercury Dime is worth the effort to seek out in higher grades, and can be found at more affordable prices in circulated and lower Mint State grade coins. The Mercury Dime took quite some time to come into production, and was intended to replace the Barber Dime. It was only produced until 1945 as complaints grew that the coin didn’t work with vending machines. The obverse of the coin features Lady Liberty’s profile wearing a winged cap. The reverse of the coin depicts a fasces that symbolizes unity, wrapped in an olive branch that symbolizes peace. The ‘D’ mint mark can be found on the bottom of the reverse of the coin.
