1922 Grant Gold Commemorative $1 – PCGS MS66★ “With Star”

This little gold coin packs a very powerful punch! Issued in 1922 to honor Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, the Union armies’ “General-in-Chief” appointed by Abraham Lincoln, this $1 piece celebrates the man who was charged to “win the war at any cost.” In doing so, Grant not only secured victory in the Civil War but introduced the world to the concept of “Total War”—a strategy that reshaped military history.

What really sets this variety apart is the tiny star struck just above the word GRANT on the obverse. You’ll need a magnifier to spot it, but that little star makes this issue significantly rarer than the standard “No Star” type.

Coin Highlights:

  • Grade & Variety: PCGS MS66 “With Star” (Label 7459.66/19953512)

  • Mintage: 4,256 pieces

  • Population (PCGS): 699 in MS66; ~300 graded finer

  • PCGS Price Guide: At MS 66, the price is $2,600; with just one grade higher (MS 67), it nearly doubles to $4,750.

  • Our Price: $2,295

Own a rare slice of American history—this finely preserved, star-variety Grant commemorative is a standout for any gold-coin collection.
