The 1920-S Standing Liberty Quarter had a total mintage of over 6.3 million from the San Francisco Mint. This coin can be difficult to find in some of the highest grades and commands a higher price for Mint State versions and Full Head versions where the head of Lady Liberty is fully struck. It is more difficult to find the Full Head versions in some of the highest grades.
History of the 1920-S Standing Liberty Quarter
The 1920-S Standing Liberty Quarter can be found in circulated and uncirculated grades, and will take some effort to find certain grades of this coin. Cherrypicking is advised to find a sharply struck coin with attractive surfaces. The obverse of the coin features Lady Liberty holding a shield in one hand and an olive branch in the other while wearing chain mail armor on her body. She stands in some form of gateway that features 13 stars and the words “In God We Trust” dividing the walls. The reverse of the coin features an American Bald Eagle in flight with 13 stars surrounding it.
