1909-O Barber Dime
The 1909-O Barber Dime had a total mintage of over 2.2 million coins struck at the New Orleans Mint. This coin features the sought after ‘O’ mint mark on the bottom of the reverse of the coin. The 1909-O Barber Dime is an underrated coin in the series as there are less of the Mint State coins in existence compared to some of the other issues of this year, yet the prices are lower for this coin. It’s possible to find this coin with relative ease in the mid-range Mint State grades, but can become more difficult to find above MS66 and MS67.
History of the 1909-O Barber Dime
The 1909-O Barber Dime is a coin that is necessary to search carefully, as there can be issues with the strike of this coin. When searching, pay particular attention to the lettering on the obverse, the lower wreath just to the right of the bow, and grains at the top right side of the wreath. Charles Barber also designed the Barber Quarter and the Barber Half Dollar. The design on this coin features a right facing profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse wearing an olive branch crown with a ribbon, and a headband with “LIBERTY” inscribed on it. The reverse of the coin features a wreath of corn, oak and maple leaves, and wheat, and frames the word One Dime.
1909-O Barber Dime Value
The 1909-O Barber Dime value reaches upwards of $14,000 for some of the highest grades of the coin available. It’s possible to build a more affordable collection with circulated and lower Mint State grade coins, and is worth the effort to find a well-struck and attractive 1909-O Barber Dime. The 1909-O Barber Dime would make a valuable addition to any Barber Dime series collection.
