1899 Barber Dime

1899 Barber Dime

The 1899 Barber Dime had a total mintage of over 19 million coins struck at the Philadelphia Mint. This was a larger mintage than some of the previous years and makes this coin relatively easy to find in most circulated and uncirculated Mint State grades. The Philadelphia minted coins didn’t have a mint mark compared to the other mints that did have a mint mark on this coin.

History of the 1899 Barber Dime

The 1899 Barber Dime is a valuable and accessible coin that is worthwhile seeking out. When looking for this coin, find one with a sharp strike, attractive details and toning, unless circulated coins are what you’re after, in which case many have smoother surfaces and less detail. The Barber Dime is part of the Barber coinage era. Charles Barber also designed the Barber Quarter and the Barber Half Dollar. The design on this coin features a right facing profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse wearing an olive branch crown with a ribbon, and a headband with “LIBERTY” inscribed on it. The reverse of the coin features a wreath of corn, oak and maple leaves, and wheat, and frames the word One Dime.

1899 Barber Dime Value

The 1899 Barber Dime value can reach upwards of $11,000 for the highest grades of this coin available. It’s possible to find more affordable versions of the coin in lower Mint State grades and circulated coins. The 1899 Barber Dime is typically a well-struck coin that would add value and beauty to any Barber Dime series collection.
