1897 O Barber Dime
The 1897-O Barber Dime was struck at the New Orleans Mint. It had a total mintage of 666,000 coins struck which is a smaller mintage compared to some of the others in the series. The New Orleans and San Francisco minted coins were usually more popular than other mint locations in the series.
History of the 1897-O Barber Dime
The 1897-O Barber Dime is worth the effort to cherrypick when possible to find a coin that is well-struck with nice tone and luster. This coin is possible to find in circulated and some of the higher Mint State grades. The Barber Dime is part of the Barber coinage era. Charles Barber also designed the Barber Quarter and the Barber Half Dollar. The design on this coin features a right facing profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse wearing an olive branch crown with a ribbon, and a headband with “LIBERTY” inscribed on it. The reverse of the coin features a wreath of corn, oak and maple leaves, and wheat, and frames the word One Dime.
1897 O Barber Dime Value
The 1897-O Barber Dime prices range to upwards of $28,000 and up for some of the highest Mint State grades. While the higher grades command a premium price tag, the Barber Dime series can be collected at more affordable prices if collectors look for circulated coins. The 1897-O Barber Dime would make a great addition to any Barber Dime series collection.
