1897 Barber Dime
The 1897 Barber Dime had a total mintage of over 10.8 million coins from the Philadelphia Mint. The Philadelphia Minted coins for this series didn’t have a mint mark, which differed from the other mint locations that did have a mint mark. The 1897 Barber Dime had a larger mintage compared to previous years, and is relatively common and easy to find in most grades. It is worth the effort to find a sharply struck piece, although building a circulated Barber Dime collection makes it more affordable.
History of the 1897 Barber Dime
The 1897 Barber Dime is an accessible and affordable coin for the novice and serious collectors alike. Cherrypicking is advised to ensure a well-struck coin with a nice luster and attractive surfaces. The Barber Dime is part of the Barber coinage era. Charles Barber also designed the Barber Quarter and the Barber Half Dollar. The design on this coin features a right facing profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse wearing an olive branch crown with a ribbon, and a headband with “LIBERTY” inscribed on it. The reverse of the coin features a wreath of corn, oak and maple leaves, and wheat, and frames the word One Dime.
