1893-O Morgan Silver Dollar

The 1893-O Morgan Silver Dollar was one of the lowest mintage of the Morgan Dollar series at the New Orleans Mint ever. It’s uncertain whether bags were paid out from the Treasury Department in 1000-coin bags or if they were paid out as singles. It wasn’t until the late 1950s that it was realized that rolls of the 1893-O Morgan Silver Dollar were scarce.

The 1893-O Morgan Silver Dollar is fairly scarce in worn grades, most likely due to the low mintage. It’s also scarce in most Mint States and rare in the higher grades. The 1893-O Morgan Dollar is typically lightly struck and usually has an average or slightly below average luster. Many of these coins are heavily bagmarked, and some of the highest grades of this coin are the rarest of all of the Morgan Silver Dollars. It’s a good idea to cherrypick for coins that are sharply struck.
