1892-O Barber Dime
The 1892-O Barber Dime had a total mintage of over 3.8 million from the New Orleans Mint. This coin has a higher mintage than some of the more rare Barber dimes that have a mintage under 1 million. Although its mintage is a little higher, the 1892-O Barber Dime is scarce in uncirculated grades, especially in some of the higher Mint State grades. In some of the highest grades of this coin, it is considered rare and will command a premium.
History of the 1892-O Barber Dime
The 1892-O Barber Dime is the first of the Barber Dime coins struck at the New Orleans Mint. This coin can be harder to find in higher grades, and cherrypicking is advised to ensure a well-struck coin with attractive surfaces. The Barber Dime is part of the Barber coinage era. Charles Barber also designed the Barber Quarter and the Barber Half Dollar. The design on this coin features a right facing profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse wearing an olive branch crown with a ribbon, and a headband with “LIBERTY” inscribed on it. The reverse of the coin features a wreath of corn, oak and maple leaves, and wheat, and frames the word One Dime.
1892-O Barber Dime Value
The 1892-O Barber Dime value can reach as high as $28,000 or more for a mid-range Mint State uncirculated coin. The highest grades of the coin would command even higher premiums and are definitely for the serious collectors. The 1892-O Barber Dime is a beautiful coin that would add value and history to any Barber Dime series collection.
