The Peace Dollar came into being in 1921 starting with the high relief and was produced until 1935. There was a short hiatus in production from 1929 to 1933 and then production started once again in 1934 for two more years. The Peace Dollar was designed by Anthony D. Francisci after he had won a competition held by the United States Commission for Fine Arts. He was given the task to create a silver dollar design that symbolizes peace after the world war. Each Peace Dollar is composed of 90% silver and 10% copper.
