The First Ever 2019 Enhanced Reverse Proof Silver Eagle

Jun 23rd 2019

2019 Enhanced Reverse Proof Silver Eagle

The United States Mint has left the coin collecting community on the edges of their seats since 2013, when the last special finish Silver Eagles were minted. Silver Eagle collectors have been anxiously waiting the arrival for another unique finish to be put on the coin. The U.S. Mint has decided that the public has waited long enough and has decided to release the first ever 2019 Enhanced Reverse Proof Silver Eagle! This piece, as seen above, is undoubtedly going to be one of the hottest coins ever released in the coin's series.

This new piece is set to be released on July 3rd in something called the Pride of Two Nations 2019 Limited-Edition Two Coin Set. The set will be released with a price tag of $139.95 and will have en extremely low mintage of just 100,000 sets. This will make this one of the lowest mintage Silver Eagles in existence. This coin will go on the map with pieces like the 1995-W Proof Silver Eagle and the 2017-S Proof Silver Eagle. In addition to this, the U.S. Mint is setting a household limit of 5 per household on this product. This will only fuel the fire for collectors to try and purchase these pieces immediately upon release.

This is the first ever jointly-released set from the U.S. Mint and Royal Canadian Mint. The Silver Eagle will be minted at the West Point Mint in New York while the Silver Maple Leaf will be minted at Canada's Ottawa Mint.

Enhanced Reverse Proof Silver Eagle Design

The new Enhanced Reverse Proof Silver Eagle will be a one-of-a-kind piece. In the past, the Mint has released a Reverse Proof Silver Eagle and an Enhanced Finish Silver Eagle, but this is the first time the two designs will be combined onto one coin. There is no other word to describe this coin besides breathtaking. On the other hand, the 2019 Modified Proof Silver Maple Leaf is also stunning, featuring a repeating maple leaf pattern around the outer edges of the coin. These pieces will be housed in a blue leatherette case that will come with a bilingual Certificate of Authenticity.

A Sure Sellout?

There is no doubting that this piece will sell out. It is just a matter of how quick this limited edition set will become unavailable on the U.S. Mint's website. Based off other similar releases like the Palladium Eagles in 2017 and 2018 and the 2017-S Proof Silver Eagle from the Congratulations set, one could say that this piece should sell out almost instantly. Shortly thereafter, the secondary markets will likely take over with the coins trading for a premium due to their limited nature.

Keep an eye on these all-new coins as they are sure to make wakes in the numismatic industry. They will be available for sale on the United States Mint's website at 12 pm EST on July 3rd, 2019. Stay tuned for updates on all U.S. Coin releases.

FAQ

What specific features distinguish the Enhanced Reverse Proof finish from the standard Reverse Proof and Enhanced finishes previously released by the U.S. Mint?

The Enhanced Reverse Proof finish on the 2019 Silver Eagle offers a unique blend of the mint's innovative approaches to coin finishes. Unlike standard Reverse Proof coins, which feature mirrored devices and a frosted background, the Enhanced Reverse Proof finish takes this concept further by adding varied textures and finishes to different elements of the coin's design. This process creates a more detailed and visually complex appearance, with certain design elements highlighted for a dramatic effect. This combination of finishes has not been applied to a Silver Eagle before, making the 2019 Enhanced Reverse Proof Silver Eagle a standout piece in terms of visual appeal and minting technique.

How does the mintage of the 2019 Enhanced Reverse Proof Silver Eagle compare to other low mintage Silver Eagles, beyond the mentioned 1995-W Proof and 2017-S Proof Silver Eagles?

Comparing the mintage of the 2019 Enhanced Reverse Proof Silver Eagle to other low mintage editions in the series, it's clear that this release is among the most limited. While the article mentions the 1995-W Proof and 2017-S Proof as notable for their low mintages, the 2019 Enhanced Reverse Proof's production of just 100,000 sets places it in an exclusive category. For context, other limited editions such as the 2008-W with Reverse of 2007 variety or the 2011-S Silver Eagle from the 25th Anniversary set also had relatively low mintages but typically exceeded the 100,000 mark. This makes the 2019 release particularly significant for collectors seeking the rarest pieces in the Silver Eagle series.

What measures are being taken to ensure the fair distribution and purchase of the limited edition set, given the household limit of 5 per household?

Regarding the fair distribution of the limited edition set, while the article does not specify beyond the household limit, the U.S. Mint typically employs several strategies to ensure equitable access. These may include the use of online ordering systems designed to limit the number of sets per household and implementing a queue system on the release day to manage demand. Additionally, the Mint might monitor and cancel orders that attempt to circumvent the household limit to prevent scalping. These measures are intended to provide a level playing field for collectors and enthusiasts, ensuring that the coins reach a broad audience rather than being concentrated in the hands of a few.
