The new 2022 Washington Quarters have officially made history. Each edition released this year is not only designed by women, but this new Washington Quarter program will feature up to five reverse designs per year featuring an influential woman in American history. The new obverse Washington Portrait was designed by Laura Gardin Frasier. This design was originally recommended for the FIRST Washington Quarter in 1932 for Washington's 200th birthday, and today it can finally see its true purpose and glory as the face of a US Quarter!
The first new reverse design depicts Maya Angelou, prolific writer, performer, and social activist, and was designed by Emily Damstra. Collectors may know her as the designer of the newest Type 2 Landing Eagle Silver Eagle reverse! She depicted Maya Angelou with her arms uplifted in front a bird in flight and a rising sun, images inspired by her poetry and symbolic of the way she lived. Struck in Denver, this quarter is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and is hand signed by Damstra herself!
