The American Burnished Silver Eagle is one of the world's most popular collectible coins. Minted in the U.S. since 2006, its beauty and low mintage mean this coin is in constant demand by collectors.
This coin in particular stands out because it is signed by Edmund Moy, the 38th Director of the U.S. Mint! You just know a coin is special when Ed Moy goes out of his way to sign only 329 of them! The impeccable Mint State 70 grade from NGC proves it! Don't let this piece slip through your fingers...
A very good year
Manufactured at the West Point Mint in New York, 130,996 Burnished Silver Eagle coins were minted in 2018. This makes them extra rare, even for the 2018 Burnished Silver Eagle series. Made with .999% pure silver, this is a special item that reflects the history of the American experience.
American Silver Eagle design and finish
The Burnished Silver Eagle is notable for its matte finish. During production, blanks of silver are tumbled to remove imperfections and leave a satin-y burnished appearance. Unlike many collectible coins, it is struck only once before packaging.
The designs on the coin are classic – designer Adolph A. Weinman's Walking Liberty Half Dollar from 1916 on the obverse, and John Mercanti's 1986 refinement of the traditional 18th century heraldic eagle on the reverse. The coin also carries a distinctive "W" mint mark.
Why collect them
Production of the Burnished Silver Eagle coins began in 2006 as a way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the U.S. Mint's public coin programs. That year, 466,573 coins were struck. Since that time, a limited annual run of the Burnished Silver Eagle has proved popular. No coins at all were produced in 2009 or 2010, and since 2011, less than 200,000 have been produced each year. This low mintage makes the burnished version of the Silver Eagle exceptionally collectible, and more coveted than other Silver Eagles coins like the Proof Silver Eagle and the Bullion Strike Silver Eagle.
If you're looking a special coin to get someone started on numismatic collectibles, or if you're an American coin collector yourself, the 2018 Burnished Silver Eagle is a sterling addition to any collection.
