The 2016 (P) Silver Eagle has the 2nd lowest mintage of all Silver Eagles with just 1,151,500 minted. Only the 2015 (P) has a lower mintage and that piece is worth some big bucks. The mintage of this coin over 3x as low as the ultra rare 1996 Silver Eagle, which is worth over $100! As you know by now, collectors were under the impression that all Silver Eagles were struck at the West Point Mint. After a Freedom of Information Act was filed in 2017, the United States Mint had to release information that a only tiny portion of Silver Eagles were minted at the Philadelphia and San Francisco Mints from 2015-2017. The 2016 Philadelphia Silver Eagle has a much lower mintage than the San Francisco and West Point Minted versions. This is a rare opportunity to own a coin that was never supposed to be known about!
F.Y.I - The large majority of these Philadelphia coins will never come into existence as many sealed Silver Eagle Mint boxes were already opened prior to this discovery, which means they will never have the (P) designation that this coin has obtained!
