Product Description
The 2009 Ultra-High Relief Gold Eagle was a nostalgic reprise of Augustus Saint-Gaudens original 1907 Gold Eagle. The extremely rare, double-thick, small diameter patterns have made a comeback on this piece! The original coins weigh as much as a normal $20 gold piece but they were struck to the diameter of a $10 gold piece. Thus, they are much thicker and smaller in diameter than a normal $20 gold piece.
The 2009 version is slightly different from the original coins in that the rim is slightly flattened and does not come to the sharp, knife edge as seen on the originals. Only 114,427 of these special pieces were ever minted. These pieces have a perfect MS70 PL grade from NGC, meaning that the surface is so fine that it almost looks like it has a Proof finish! Even better, only 382 have ever been signed by Mike Castle, the coinage congressman! What makes this piece so incredible though, is that the NGC Price Guide values these exact coins but signed by Anna Cabral at $8,000! How can you go wrong paying half the price for an equally beautiful coin??
