The coin has a reeded edge and diameter of 30.00mm. It weighs 12.50g and was designed by German-American sculptor and engraver Adolphe A. Weinman.
The coin’s obverse side gives it its name; it features Lady Liberty in full view striding toward the horizon lit by a rising sun. In her arms, she is carrying long branches of oak and laurel, which are symbolic of national military and civic glory. Her gown and long hair is blowing in the direction of her outstretched arm. Above her head is the word ‘Liberty’ while the year of minting appears below her. The 1944-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar also contains the motto, “In God We Trust.”
The reverse side of the 1944-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar coin shows the image of a bold bald eagle perched on a mountain crag. Its wings are outstretched as if it’s about to take flight. A small pine sapling grows from its perch. Above the eagle are the words “United States of America. The coin’s denomination, half dollar, appears below the eagle.
