Product Description
Struck to commemorate the Centennial Anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth, the 1909 Lincoln Cent is a great piece of Americana. Designed by Lithuanian immigrant sculptor Victor D. Brenner, the design originally featured his initials "V.D.B" rather largely on the reverse. The large initials were considered scandalous at the time, so the Mint removed them from the design. However before his initials were removed, 27,995,000 cents were struck in 1909.
Collectors go wild any time they come across these rare "V.D.B" issues. To find pieces like these that have the "V.D.B" prominently shown are not common. This exact coin, but with a "S" mintmark, would run you well over $3,000. How could you be wrong purchasing the Philadelphia Minted version of the same coin at less than 10% of the price!
