The Binion Hoard is, without a doubt, one of the most well known hoards of coins ever found. Ted Binion was a collector of all things, especially silver coins and bars. He hoarded them for decades and ended up burying his $7 Million fortune in his backyard. The night before he died in 1998, he called his attorney asking to remove his wife from his will. He believed she was going to murder him. Sure enough, the next day Ted was found dead of a supposed "overdose." Two days later, his wife's "lover" was found digging up Ted's silver coins in the backyard at 2 a.m. He along with Ted's wife were charged for the murder of Ted Binion.
This Hoard was eventually purchased by a major coin dealer and was certified by NGC in 2001 and the coins were holdered with the special "Binion Hoard" Pedigree. Each of these 1878-S Morgan Dollars are from this infamous hoard and have been graded in MS62 grade. Not bad considering they were buried in someone's backyard right??
