Product Description
The Morgan Dollar, despite being what many collectors consider a perfect coin, was modified a few weeks into its first year of issue in 1878. The first reverse design, known as the '8-Tailfeather' would only be struck for a few weeks before changing to a secondary '7-Tailfeather' reverse. The change was made because of public outcry declaring that eagles have 7 tail feathers, not 8!
The 1878 7 Tailfeather Reverse 1879 is most obvious by its slanted arrow feathers, which are now convex and natural looking. Graded an excellent AU58 by NGC, these 1878 7 Tailfeather Reverse 1879 are exquisite pieces for a sophisticated classic collector. Complete your Morgan Dollar collection with this first year of issue piece!
