Product Description
It's not very often we get these pre-1933 gold coins in! This 1953 Gold Liberty is a real treat.  With a mintage of 4,076,051, according to NGC there are only 2,705 in MS61! The Gold Liberty Dollar was minted from 1849 through 1889. The Type I issue which was minted until 1854, has the smallest diameter of any United States coin minted to date. Due to the California Gold Rush there was an influx of bullion, so Congress authorized this dollar in 1849. In its early years, Silver coins were being hoarded or exported since they were out of circulation, so the Gold Dollar easily found a place in commerce. Silver returned to circulation in 1853, and the Gold Dollar became a rarity in commerce once again. Add this important piece of numismatic history to your collection today, as we don't know when we can offer another opportunity like this!
