The story of the Sao Jose wreck is incredible! This Portuguese ship was on its way to trade in Goa, the Portuguese colony in India, but was brutally attacked by the Dutch and British at sea! The Sao Jose then tragically sunk off the coast of Mozambique in 1622. They were able to recover around 66,000 pieces of the treasure afterwards, but the ship and remaining bounty would be lost at sea for the next 400 years! In 2005, the wreck was located and 24,000 silver 4 and 8 reales were salvaged. An incredible relic of the long forgotten spice trade. You will get (1) NGC graded and certified 4 reales coin.
